Engineers who seek migration opportunity as a permanent resident under the skilled workers category in Australia need to apply to the regulatory body for the Skill Assessment Engineers Australia. This process is abbreviated as MSA( Migration skill Assessment). Engineers Australia controls the quality of engineers entering into the Australian market by using various criteria.
For Australian credentials, Engineers Australia doesn’t measure the aptitude of engineers. There are five different pathways for Engineers to enter the Australian market as an engineer and live there permanently. Engineers are assessed in order to find that they can really fit on onto the Australian market in the selected occupation list.
Five pathways of Skill Assessment Engineers Australia does:-
There are five pathways for skill assessment namely :
- Australian Qualifications
- Washington Accord Qualifications
- Sydney Accord Qualifications
- Dublin Accord Qualifications
- Competency Demonstration Report (CDR Report)
Accredited Qualifications
Accredited Qualifications are the recognized international qualifications. They are recognized because the Australian Governing bodies think that they meet Australian Standards. You get official credentials directly if you get those Accredited Qualifications
- Australian Qualifications
- Washington Accord Qualifications
- Sydney Accord Qualifications
- Dublin Accord Qualifications
Non-accredited Qualifications
Those qualifications which are not related to recognized accrediting body or a professional organization is known as non-accredited qualifications. You can acquire good skill sets and this can be demonstrated to Engineers Australia through Competency demonstration report (CDR Report).

- Accredited Qualifications
If you want a degree which will entitle you with recognized professional certification, you need Accredited Qualifications.
Australian government has developed Australian Qualification Framework. This framework recognizes three types of engineering professionals on the basis of their expertise.
-
-
- Professional Engineers
- Engineering Technicians
- Engineering Associates
-
Accredited Qualifications has four Qualifications which are explained below in details : –
Australian Qualifications
Australian Qualification ensures that you apply for migration skill assessment of Engineers Australia which doesn’t require you to write Competency Demonstration Report (CDR Report Writing) . All the credentials given by Australian Education system have the three above mentioned categories.
Washington Accord
For your qualification to categorize under Washington Accord Qualifications, your course title must match the public list of authorized credentials of the Washington Accord. Washington accord encompasses only those qualifications that are equivalent to the Australian Four year Bachelors Degree.
Sydney Accord
Sydney accord encompasses only those qualifications that are equivalent to a three year Australian Bachelors Degree. The Degree holder must have the same degree title as it is mentioned in the signatory’s public list of authorized credentials.
Dublin Accord
Qualifications that are openly proclaimed as being recognized will be examined by an authorized signatory of the Dublin Accord. The Degree holder must have the same degree title as it is mentioned in the signatory’s public list of authorized credentials. The academic level recognized by the Dublin Accord is roughly equivalent to the Australian 2 years bachelors degree.
-
- Non-Accredited Qualifications
Non-accredited Qualifications are those qualifications which the Australian Regulatory body finds as a professional degree that can lead to a job. Though the bodies that give degrees might be recognized by some agencies, the Australian Regulatory bodies think that non-accredited qualifications just provide apprentices to the applicants and their non-accredited degree can only become a part of their CV.
Migration skill assessment therefore assesses directly only the countries which have been fully become a part of either Sydney , Washington or Dublin Accord and diplomas and bachelors from Australia.
Applicants whose degrees are not recognized need to go through the process called CDR Writing ( Competency Demonstration Report Writing)
Competency Demonstration Report
Competency Demonstration Report, often recognized as CDR Report, is written in the format as required by Engineers Australia. The format is provided in the MSA Booklet of Engineers Australia. Native Australian whose degree is from a foreign country need not write a CDR Report.
Applicants submitting CDR Report must demonstrate the knowledge and abilities of the subject which is equivalent to that of the Australian skill standard and a competent English language. Most of the applicants fail because they are not able to write reports that showcases their engineering knowledge appropriately and also because their English language abilities are poor.
The institute of Engineers Australia reviews the CDR report of the applicant. A CDR report encompasses three career episodes, one CV, one CPD and one summary statement.
What are the required CDR Documents ?
Apart from three career episodes, one CV, one CPD and one summary statement, other documents listed below must also be provided.
